System Dynamics Laboratory (SDLab)
PhD Position : Robust Aerostructural Optimization based on new Higher-Order Adjoint Methods
Description of Research
The SDLab has a position for a Ph.D. student to participate in research and development on
robust aerostructural shape and topology optimization considering loading and modelling
uncertainties. The members of the SDLab currently participate in three funded projects on
Uncertainty Quantification and Propagation in engineering science, including structural
dynamics and nanotechnology, in collaboration with international partner institutes.
Tasks
The PhD student is expected to:
- conduct scientific research as detailed above and write a PhD-thesis;
- disseminate results through scientific publication and presentation at conferences;
- provide assistance with supervising MSc-student projects.
Requirements
- An academic degree and a Master Degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering or related field.
- Solid knowledge of computational methods in mechanics/dynamics is required.
- Knowledge of a programming language (Matlab, Fortran or C++) is considered important.
- Familiarity/experience with one or more of the following is desirable: structural optimization, uncertainty quantification, probabilistic analysis, fluid-structure interaction, adjoint methods, parallel processing in the Unix/Linux environment, programming in OpenFOAM.
- Proficiency in both written and spoken English.
Funding Source
Financial support for the successful PhD student is available for 30 months from the
Postdoctoral Program: ?Robust aerostructural optimization based on new high-order adjoint
methods? funded by the Greek General Secretariat of Research and Technology. The
position is expected to begin as soon as possible.
